Richardson 112 Green Mountain Boys F-35 Trucker Hat
I designed the shied for this hat as a tribute to the Green Mountain Boys past and present. The F-35 carries the words Life, Liberty and Property on its wings. In May 1946, the 134th Fighter Wing formed and they became the Green Mountain Boys. On Oct. 19, 2019, the Green Mountain Boys officially welcomed the F-35 Lightning II into the 158th Fighter Wing.
History: The Green Mountain boys were a small group of militia formed by Ethan Allen in 1770. They began by fighting off people who wanted to steal their land and crops, but when circumstances changed, they found themselves involved in the war against England.
Several towns then organized committees of safety and military companies to protect their interests against the Yorkers. These military groups called themselves “The New Hampshire Men” while New York authorities referred to them as the “Bennington Mob” and rioters.
By 1772, they were called the “Green Mountain Boys.” When they continued to terrorize, beat, and burn out Yorkers the governor of New York offered rewards for their capture and then, in absentia, sentenced them to death. In response, their leader Ethan Allen declared they were fighting for their “liberty, property, and life,” thereby linking the Grants’ cause to America’s fight with Britain. The Green Mountain Boys went on to play pivotal military roles in the independence of Vermont and America’s revolutionary cause.
These soldiers ended up playing an important role in the Revolutionary War, though they never really considered themselves part of the war.
